What is Reiki?

Reiki is a safe, non-intrusive hands on healing technique which balances energies in the body, mind and spirit. It is an ancient healing technique and is a continuation of the teachings given by the Grand Master Dr Mikau Usui at the end of the 19th century. Rei means ‘Universal’ and Ki means ‘Life force energy’. When combined it’s meaning is ‘Universal Life Force Energy’.

Reiki works on the physical, spiritual and emotional level. It encourages self-healing, strengthens body and soul, unblocks energy paths, balances chakras and restores balance and harmony in the body. Possible benefits include stress reduction, pain relief, accelerated healing of illnesses and injuries, relaxation and the encouragement of spiritual and personal awareness. Reiki is not affiliated with any one religion or religious practice. A recipient does not have to be spiritually inclined although an open mind is of benefit!

What happens during a Reiki treatment?

The client lies comfortably and fully clothed on the couch. The therapist works with the ‘Ki’. Your own body then directs energy to where it is needs it most. Clients may experience heat or tingling as the sensations of Ki flow throughout the body. Most people feel a profound sense of relaxation and at the end of the treatment feel calm, grounded, refreshed and energised.
